How pricing works on Tutorac

Tutorac supports a few different ways of paying for learning, and the one that applies to you depends on what you’re hiring — a live tutor, a recorded video course, or a custom training. This guide explains each pricing model, when it applies, and what you can expect to see at checkout.

The three pricing models

Milestone-based — the whole training is split into chunks (milestones), and you fund and release each one separately. This is Tutorac’s default for live, custom trainings hired through Hire Now.
Fixed price — a single agreed amount for a whole training, paid up-front. Used mostly for short, well-defined courses.
Hourly rate — the tutor charges per hour of teaching; you pay weekly or per session depending on the agreement.

Whatever model is used, your money goes into escrow with Tutorac first — the tutor only receives funds when you (or the policy) release them. That’s what makes the refund system in cancellations and refunds work.

Milestone-based pricing (default for live tutors)

The total training cost is divided into 2 or more milestones, each with its own scope (e.g., “Module 1: Fundamentals” — ₹5,000 / $60) and an amount.
You fund the first milestone when the tutor accepts your hire. Tutorac holds it in escrow.
You click Release Payment when satisfied with a milestone — that funds the tutor and unlocks the next milestone.
If something goes wrong, the cancellation refund is calculated on the active milestone’s completion percentage. Future milestones you funded but haven’t started yet are refunded in full.

Fixed-price pricing

A single amount for the entire engagement, funded at the start.
Used by tutors who offer well-defined, short trainings (e.g., a 4-hour bootcamp).
Cancelling is treated as a single milestone — the same percentage-based refund bracket applies based on how much of the training has been delivered.
No mid-way release: payment moves to the tutor once you mark the training complete or the schedule ends without disputes.

Hourly-rate pricing

Tutor lists an hourly rate on their profile (e.g., ₹1,500/hr or $25/hr).
When you hire, you and the tutor agree on a session schedule and an estimate of total hours.
Hours are typically grouped into weekly milestones for funding/release rhythm — you don’t literally pay after every single session.
If the actual hours used differ from the estimate, the milestones can be adjusted on Messages and reflected in the batch.

Video Courses pricing

Pre-recorded courses sold at a fixed price on the tutor’s listing.
Paid up-front in full — there are no milestones for video courses.
Once purchased, you have access for the duration stated on the listing (often lifetime, sometimes time-bound).

Who sets the price

Tutors set their own rates — Tutorac doesn’t fix prices.
Tutors can quote a different price for your specific hire than the one shown on their profile — that’s a negotiated rate, captured in the hire form.
You can negotiate before the tutor accepts — once accepted, the agreed amount and milestones are locked in.
India accounts are billed in ₹ INR; all other accounts in $ USD. The tutor sees the amount in their own account currency.

FAQs

Does Tutorac add fees on top of the price I see?

For learners, the amount you fund is the amount agreed in the hire — service fees are deducted on the tutor’s side from their earnings, not added on top of yours. See Tutorac service fees for the exact breakdown.

Can I negotiate the milestone amounts after hiring?

The original milestones are locked once the tutor accepts. To adjust scope or amounts mid-batch, discuss on Messages — the tutor can propose a revised milestone, which you fund separately.

Why do some tutors charge much more or much less than others?

Tutor rates reflect their experience, certifications, country, niche, and demand. Cheaper isn’t always worse — many highly capable tutors offer competitive intro rates.
